Efalex - an advanced combination of Omega-3 and Omega-6 nutrients
Efalex is a unique formulation that contains carefully selected fish oil rich in DHA and Efamol Pure Evening Primrose Oil, which are excellent sources of omega-3 and omega-6 nutrients. The combination of the DHA, EPA, AA and GLA fatty acids that they contain play very important roles in the healthy functioning of the brain and eyes.
An adequate dietary intake of these essential good fats will support all aspects of brain and eye function including learning ability, concentration and co-ordination.
Nutrition and brain and eye function
Essential fatty acids, like vitamins, cannot be made by the body and so must be included in the diet. The body converts essential fatty acids into long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPs), which form part of the membrane around and within every cell in the body and play an important role in eye and brain activity.
Fat in its various forms makes up about 20% of the bodyweight but the brain contains an even higher percentage - 60%. Research carried out at Purdue University has shown that a nutritionally complete diet that includes combinations of certain fatty acids can play a vital role in the development of vision, learning ability and co-ordination.
A large proportion of the human brain is composed of LCPs and the most abundant of these are docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)and arachidonic acid (AA). Each of these LCPs play a vital role in eye and brain function; DHA is required for nerve cell and eye membranes, and AA is required for transmission of messages along nerves and for the development of memory.
Learning ability in humans begins to show itself early on in childhood. Some parents discover that although their children are intelligent and creative, they can find every day tasks daunting and some may even demonstrate unruly or disruptive behaviour.
Dietary inclusion of the nutrients DHA and AA may help in the support of a child's concentration, and therefore their learning ability and behaviour. Efalex is a convenient way to help safeguard dietary intake of DHA and AA fatty acids and is suitable for people of all ages, and may be especially useful for children over the age of two.
One teaspoon (5ml) of Efalex contains: tuna oil 640mg (containing: 140 DHA, 32mg EPA, 11mg AA), evening primrose oil 213mg (containing 24mg GLA). In a base of sunflower and lemon oil,Efalex is available as clear oblong soft gelatine capsules and liquid in lemon and lime flavour
